Question: How do I qualify for surgery at Health Resource Centre?

The Health Resource Centre is contracted to perform a variety of clinical services and surgical for Alberta Health Services. Alternately you may qualify as an uninsured patient (i.e. work-related workers compensation claim), or if you are a non-resident of Canada.

Question: Can my family physician refer me for surgery at the Health Resource Centre?

Yes, for those surgical procedures that are under contract to Alberta Health Services. Your Family physician must complete the required referral form and fax it to (403) 220-0500.

Question: Is the Health Resource Centre a private healthcare facility?

Yes, the Health Resource Centre is a Canadian controlled company that provides services for the public health system under contract. In addition the Health Resource Centre provides services to qualified third parties (Federal Government, Workers Compensation Boards and non-residents of Canada).

Question: Can I get quicker access to care by paying the for the procedure myself?

In Alberta we have health care legislation that pre-determines who can purchase insured services such as an ACL repair or total joint replacement. Current legislation determines that only non-residents of Canada may pay directly for their care.
